Answered by Kenneth S.

1-tan^2(x) = 1 – (sin2x)/(cos2x) = [cos2x – sin2x]/cos2x = [cos 2x]/cos2x is a posibly ‘simplified’ version in that it has been boiled down to only cosines.

1+tan2x=sec2x

Explanation:

Change to sines and cosines then simplify.

1+tan2x=1+sin2xcos2x

=cos2x+sin2xcos2x

but cos2x+sin2x=1

we have∴1+tan2x=1cos2x=sec2x
